Millions of travelers will be traveling through JFK International Airport or the other NYC airports this year for both business or pleasure. Understanding that your time is of the utmost importance, the TSA or Transportation Security Administration is offering those frequent travelers to airports throughout the U.S. a way to speed up their time through security.
Under way right now are the beginning test phases of the new program called TSA Pre. A voluntary pre screening initiative, those qualifying to participate in this program will be eligible for expedited screening. What this means for the approved traveler is that each traveler will be referred to a lane where they will undergo expedited screening which may include no longer having to remove:
- Shoes
- 3-1-1 compliant bag from carry-on
- Laptop from bag
- Light outerwear/jacket
- Belt
Right now, the TSA Pre program is only being used by a limited number of participants including Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and CBP’s Trusted Traveler Programs and only at the following airports:
- Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International
- Dallas/Fort Worth International
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County
- Las Vegas’ McCarran International
- Miami International
- Los Angeles International ( Added on January 18, 2012)
Update – Beginning in early 2012, the TSA Pre pilot will be expanding to include some passengers in Salt Lake City and JFK. To find out if you can apply contact TSA online at TSA.gov for more information about becoming part of the test phase of this new program.
